Michel G. Imber: Architect
A devoted artist and contemporary master of classical architecture, architect Michael Imber is the founding principal of Michael G. Imber, Architects, a firm with offices in San Antonio, Texas, and Santa Barbara, California, that is widely recognized for work that honors historic tradition while achieving a distinctly modern clarity. An accomplished watercolorist, his architectural studies form a celebrated and distinctive part of his creative process.
Over the course of his career, Michael has received numerous local and national honors, including the Arthur Ross Award for his enduring commitment to the classical tradition in residential architecture, civic buildings, and neighborhood design. He was elevated to the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows for his contributions to American architecture and received the Texas Society of Architects’ William W. Caudill, FAIA Award recognizing both his early achievements and service to the profession. The firm’s work has also earned four Palladio Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Traditional Design as well as multiple Texas Institute of Classical Architecture & Art John Staub Awards. An NCARB-certified architect licensed in multiple states, Michael is a founding counselor of the Congress of Residential Architects and founding president of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art’s Texas Chapter.
Michael’s work has been widely published in magazines including Architectural Digest, Veranda, Galerie, Departures and many others, and is the subject of the monograph Michael G. Imber: Ranches, Villas, and Houses by Elizabeth Dowling, published by Rizzoli. His watercolors and artistic process are featured in the bestselling book, The Art of the Architect, which was published in 2023, and Rizzoli is releasing Stories of Home, a new book of residences around the country, in Spring 2027. Michael lives with his family in San Antonio, Texas.
